St. Andrews Fellowship

St. Andrews' Global Fellowship Scheme

UC faculty are invited to apply for St. Andrews’ Global Fellowship Scheme—a program that provides awards to enable talented scholars from around the globe to spend up to one month at St Andrews. During this time, Global Fellows will be able to undertake a course of research and study, explore potential collaborations, enhance existing relationships, advance research work and find the space to think in an inspirational environment.

Applicants should be recognized as significant scholars in their field or emerging leaders who have made a contribution to original research that extends the frontier of knowledge. Global Fellow will be expected to engage virtually with students and colleagues throughout the 2023/24 academic year and to visit St. Andrews between August 1, 2023 and July 31, 2024. St. Andrews provides all awardees with a stipend during their visit, self-catered accommodation, roundtrip airfare and airport transfers.

Please see the Global Fellowship web page for more information about applying or contact globalfellows@st-andrews.ac.uk. Applications for the 2024/25 academic year are due March 1, 2024.

Mellon Award

Mellon Emerging Faculty Leaders Award

The Mellon Emerging Faculty Leaders (MEFL) are building inclusive campus communities through their teaching, scholarship, and service. Awardees are early-career faculty whose research focuses on contemporary American history, politics, culture, and society. In addition to bringing a diversity of perspectives to their fields, MEFL awardees are building support systems, networks, and affinity groups for their students and peers.

Funded by the Mellon Foundation, the MEFL award provides a $17,500 grant to free the time of junior faculty who have passed their mid-point review so that they may pursue tenure effectively while continuing to engage in campus leadership and service. The deadline for applications is December 1.

Internship

2024 UNOLS INTERNSHIP

U.S. Academic Research Fleet of UNOLS-designated research ships will host 1 long-term (approximately 6 months) and 12-14 short-term (2-12 weeks each) marine technical internships in 2024. Departure dates will depend on the schedule of each research cruise. We will first select candidates for internships starting in Winter, Spring, and then in Summer and Fall.

The selected interns will work with marine technicians and other crew members on shore and at sea and learn how to operate and maintain a variety of scientific and navigational equipment in support of shipboard scientific research. The program will pay a stipend of $600 per week plus airfare, lodging and other approved travel expenses. Interns will work, eat, and sleep aboard the research vessel, and be provided lodging and a meal plan off ship as needed. Internship projects will vary from one hosting organization to another and correspond to the objectives set by each specific cruise mission. Shipboard sleeping arrangements vary vessel to vessel. Previous interns have worked on cruises to support science projects ranging from chemical oceanography to marine biology, seafloor mapping surveys, geological studies, ROV missions, and much more! Many successful internships have resulted in job offers. Please email Maria Osiadacz, Program Manager, maria@unols.org, with questions about the program and life aboard research vessels.

Application Deadline 1: DECEMBER 4, 2023 to be considered for internships that start as early as January. Your application will be reviewed for all internships in 2024 depending on availability
